Greek Cypriot Submits Claim to Immovable Property Commission after obtaining ECHR Decision
A Greek Cypriot, previously awarded damages by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for a property rights violation, has now submitted a claim to the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).
This new claim, similar to the well-known Loizidou case, is expected to have a positive influence on the ongoing review process by the Committee of Delegates of the Council of Europe.
Unlike Loizidou, who sought resolution through the ECHR, this applicant has chosen to pursue a settlement through the Immovable Property Commission.
In 1989, Titina Loizidou filed a case with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Turkey, claiming her property in Northern Cyprus had been taken. The ECHR ruled in her favor, and she received compensation in 2003. In 2022, the Committee of Delegates concluded its review of the Immovable Property Commission's (IPC) actions in response to the ECHR ruling, finding them adequate and effective.
